Why Third Wave?

Our services are intentionally designed for those who have been ignored, left behind, or simply fell through the cracks of traditional academia. Often, our first encounter with workplace-applicable education, often in high school, is ineffective and one-size-fits-all. This leaves us missing many valuable and necessary skills for the modern workplace and possibly life itself! This is the "first wave” of education, and unfortunately this first place might be the last place of learning for some.

Likewise, prospective learners everywhere have increasingly found the “typical” avenues of post-secondary education is not for them—university is too expensive, trade schools not flexible enough, and many training sessions cram a lifetime of missing skills into a single day’s lone session. This is the “second wave” of education, and may leave people feeling even more dejected than the first since it is often voluntary.

We represent the third wave, a chance to fill the niche left for those who find more traditional education too inflexible, expensive, rushed, or time-consuming for the demanding and ever-changing modern workplace. We take a hybrid approach by utilizing in-person lessons, teleconferencing with experts, self-paced lesson plans and step-by-step instructional videos to make sure that no matter what your specific needs, we have the right path to learning for you!

Michael Negron

The founder and main intellectual force behind ThirdWave, Michael has built a career working to develop and share critical skills necessary in the modern workplace.

First helping students of his alma mater, Eastern Michigan University, to hone their writing mastery at the EMU Writing Center, he subsequently spent the next several years building a wide portfolio of marketable skills with an expertise in business tech/writing.

Over the last decade, Michael has partnered with dozens of businesses, colleges, and trade schools in the tri-state area to bring these skills home: from simple computer literacy classes for elders and teens to a full semester of curriculum development in AI, coding with Python and Swift, and business writing for Oakland Community College. Now, he’s bringing skilled training further yet!

Doyle Mendenhall

An avid interest in technology, keen eye for opportunity, and natural talent for communication kept Doyle in a continual process of honing his skills even as life took him in many different directions:

First developing a fascination for robotics in partnership with F.I.R.S.T. Robotics, then learning staff management and sales as a store manager at one of the largest telecommunications firms in the Midwest, before pursuing more creative projects utilizing Blendr, Python, and Unity to create stunning works that merge art, entertainment, and technological craftsmanship.

Doyle’s role as our Communications Head is multifaceted: determining client needs and optimal solutions, maintaining our web of experts, and facilitating smooth internal communications, to name a few. He’s the friendly yet determined face who will help you meet your goals!

Benjamin Negron

Our “silent” third partner behind the scenes, Ben Negron supports our efforts in myriad unique ways, from offering networking and negotiation support, to curriculum development critique, to public outreach.

He has long been known to likewise support many worthy endeavors—including HOLA (Hispanics of Lenawee Alliance), his work as a trustee at Siena Heights University, and his most recent contribution: aiding Adrian’s Align Center! What’s more, for nearly a decade, Ben has tirelessly imparted critical business skills in southeast Michigan and beyond—to all parts of the US!

His lifelong contributions are rewarded enough simply by his positive impact on the community, but that same community has often seen fit to reward him further: culminating in earning Adrian’s Citizen of the Year award, If you are a decent person in need, you will find a friend and partner in Ben!
